Health Guarantee
Keeping your Basset Hound healthy starts with knowing the breed’s unique needs.
At Alex Basset Hound Puppies, we make Basset Hound health a top priority from day one. Our goal is to help you raise a happy, strong companion with a long, active life. Whether you’re preparing for a new puppy or caring for an adult Basset, our tips cover everything you need.
First, regular veterinary visits play a key role in preventing illness. Start with vaccinations and deworming early in your puppy’s life. Bassets are prone to ear infections, so clean their ears weekly and keep them dry. Dental health also matters—brush their teeth and provide safe chew toys to prevent plaque buildup.
Next, proper feeding builds the foundation for good health. We recommend high-quality dog food rich in protein, vitamins, and essential fats. Portion control is important, too. Because Bassets are low to the ground and stocky, they gain weight easily. Obesity leads to joint and spine problems, so always feed based on weight and age guidelines.
Daily exercise keeps your Basset agile and happy. A long walk or a calm play session can help burn calories and reduce stress. Still, avoid overexertion—Basset Hounds are prone to hip and elbow issues. Keep walks steady and avoid high-impact activity like jumping or climbing stairs.
Socialization and mental stimulation are just as vital as physical activity. Bassets are sensitive, affectionate, and intelligent. They thrive in loving homes where they receive attention and mental enrichment. Toys, puzzles, and new experiences help reduce boredom and anxiety.
All our breeding dogs undergo genetic testing, and we only breed from lines with strong health and temperament. Each puppy comes microchipped, vaccinated, and checked by a licensed veterinarian before adoption. This gives your Basset the healthiest start possible.
We also recommend regular grooming. Keep nails trimmed, bathe your Basset monthly with gentle shampoo, and brush them weekly to reduce shedding. This routine prevents skin issues and strengthens your bond with your dog.
